Keep a finger on the pulse of digital learning with Rick Zanotti (RELATE) and Lesley Price (Learn Appeal) as they interview top visionaries in
the eLearning industry!
It's all about business on eBizChat! Rick Zanotti and Dr. Susan Nash interview entrepreneurs, business leaders, and economic experts, who tell us about their startups, enterprises, and the future of the world's industries!
Being a guest on a RELATECASTS show is easy and shouldn’t take too much of your time. Whether you’re a seasoned guest or a first-time in front of a camera one, the following guidelines should help you have a great show appearance and a solid marketing opportunity for you and/or your company.
How to Get the Most Out of Your Appearance
Every show is streamed live on LinkedIn and
Facebook, and uploaded to YouTube.
The "live" show can be seen at:
https://www.linkedin.com/in/rickzanotti
https://www.facebook.com/RELATECORP/
The recorded show will be uploaded to our
RELATECASTS YouTube channel found at:
https://www.youtube.com/user/RELATECasts/
We detail the information we need from
you in the Apply to Be a Guest form below.
Yes! We use vMix to stream exactly what
viewers are seeing back to you—no need
to open up the stream separately.
Note that your own video feed will seem delayed
while we're recording live; this is just a side effect
of processing video and sending it back to your
computer, but your audio and video will play
in sync for the audience.
You’ll be talking with us on the "live" show
(see samples of our videos to see what the
end result looks like) but during the interview
you will be talking to your video camera.
Be sure to look at it occasionally during the
interview as that’s how you make “eye contact”
with the audience. All our interviews are relaxed,
fun conversations.
Think of this as a great conversation over
dinner or drinks and you’ll do well.
We will call you via Skype usually 15 minutes
before the show recording.
This is our pre-show and it’s where we do some
light chatting, check audio/video settings,
make sure names/titles are correct and review
any show specifics before starting the recording.
Tips for Getting Audio
& Video & Lighting
We want your appearance on our show to be a
successful one. Here are some guidelines to help
you look, sound and feel good!
You can use either a Mac or a PC. If you have a
laptop, keep in mind they usually have poor
webcams and even poorer microphones built in.
We would recommend that you hook up an external
webcam and/or microphone to your laptop to
ensure good video and audio quality.
Note: if you have a Mac, the FaceTime webcam is
usually pretty good, but you would do better with
an external microphone.
Headphones or earbuds are generally preferable
to speakers, as your microphone will probably pick
up your speaker's output and cause audio feedback.
There are thousands of microphones out there and
a large number are quite good. What isn’t good is
a cheap built-in laptop mic, cheap lavalier mics,
cheap headset mics or mics that come
built into your monitor.
Ideally, a good condenser mic is the best choice
as it has a warmer sound. There are many good
USB mics and quite a few decent headset mics.
Some brands to consider are:
(not listed in any order)
– SAMSON / ZOOM
– RODE
– SHURE
– SENNHEISER
– SONY
– ELECTRO-VOICE
– BLUE MICROPHONE
– MXL
– AUDIO-TECHNICA
– PLANTRONICS
– LOGITECH
– DPA
- COUNTRYMAN
First, Go to Settings
Next, Select Audio & Video
In the Audio & Video box, scroll down to
Microphone and:
1. De-select the box which automatically
adjusts your volume
(this often causes many problems)
2. Set your microphone volume as high as possible
Ah, yes, Skype! Between bandwidth and Skype
we have nightmares at night before each show…
Skype is a fabulous tool that every so often simply
gives us problems due to bandwidth, bad
audio settings or bad video/audio.
Following are some screenshots of what to set up
in Skype prior to a show to ensure your audio
quality is as good as it can get
(that means you sound great,
clear and understandable).
Another issue we often have with guests is that
they’re nearly invisible dark smudges with no
discernible features, or they're too bright and look
ghost-like. Hmm? That doesn’t sound too good,
does it? We want you to look great!
Lighting is very important for good video quality
and even more so when you’re using a webcam.
Webcams make you look best when the subject,
you, is lit up properly. Too much light and your
image is burned out. Too little light and no one
can recognize you.
Here are some recommendations for good lighting:
1. Make sure you have some light source in front
of you or a little on the side.
We want people to see your face!
2. Try to minimize the amount of back light
because that tends to create contrast and makes
your image darker.
Bright windows behind you are a no-no.
Feel free to get a hold of us prior to the show.
See our Contact form and we’ll get back with you
as quickly as possible, or sooner!

Terrence was a multi-talented professional and good friend to us here at RELATE. He was a mentor to many, a leadership coach, a social media advocate, a sales manager, and a master in Instructional Technology. Terrence left us all way too early at the age of 42.
We all miss him dearly.
May he rest in peace.
